Steve quickly became recognized as one of the best young freestyte skaters when he won the Ventura Contest at age 14. After his very impressive victory over many established Stars, he was invited to compete in three very exclusive contests : The National Masters invitational Tournament,held at the Nassau Coliseum in New Yo ; the Long Beach World Contest and, the Cartsbad World Contest.

BASIC RULES FOR SAFE SKATEBOARDJNG
RULES OS THE ROAD-WHERE TO SKATEBOARD
1. Skateboard in only designated areas such as a skateboard park.
2. Sidewalk skating is prohibited in some city areas. Obey that rule. Where it is allowed, be alert and cautious about cars and pedestrians.
3. Never skateboard on a busy street or a street where it is difficult to be seen.
4. Obey traffic signaIs, signs and all traffic regulations.
5. Never allow yourself to be towed by a bicycIe, automobile,or any other moving vehicle. This type of activity usually ends in disaster.
6. Always be courteous to other skaters and to pedestrians. Don't give skateboarding a bad name. Set a good example.

Kim Cespesdes-Age : 19, Team : Hobie, Specialty : Slalom
Kim is considered by many to be thee hottest and most aggressive lady in skateboarding. Her competitive attitude is complimented by a fluid surfing style that makes her a pleasure to watch. Besides being a great bowl and bank rider, Kim is currently the 1977 Women's Slalom World champion. She won the title last September at the Carlsbad World Championships, which appeared on the ABC Wide World of Sports.

Henry Hester-Age : 26, Team : Santa Cruz skateboards, Specialty : Slalom
Henry Hester has been the undisputed Slalom Champion for years. He tied for 1st place in the Signal HilI Speed Race in 1977 in the UnIimited Class. He is one of the original Directors of the SM Professional Riders Organization (PRO). He has lately turned his talents and experience to include contest erecting. He has worked diligently on developing slalom rules that are now used throughout the world.

John Hughes-Age : 23, Team : Cardiff By The Sea, CA, Specialty : Speed Runs
He is particularly fond of kneeboarding. He has made freeflying airborn jumps of 47 feet. He tied thee first place speed at the 1976 Signal Hill Race (Unlimited Class) in a run-off for 2nd place. He has been getting into ramps quite a bit. Who knows how far he'II go. John played the bad guy in the speed run sequence for the movie "Skateboard“. AIways serious about the outrageous stunts he pulls,he sternly reminds skaters that "DownhiII isn't a game, you have to take it seriousiy“.
