Nick Leonard-Age : 30, Team : Powerflex, specialty : Modified skatecars.
Coming from an aeronautical engineering background,Nick has found his place in skateboarding. He has the 1st place win at Akcron,Ohio in the Unlimited Class. He tied for 2nd at the 1977 Signal Hill event in the same division. He received the “best Designed Speed Car" award at the Signal Hill race. For ten years he has been racing single seat formula cars. He also spent time building full scale, operational airplanes.

David Andrews-Age : 26, Team : Bahne, specialty : Giant Slalom.
An amateur whose time has come, David Andrews turned Professional in 1977 after a year and a half as an amateur racer. He raced Tight Slalom at the Catalina Classic (13th place), Giant Slalom at Akcron,ohio (10th), tight Slalom at Long Beach, 1977 (7th), and the Hester Giant Slalom (2nd). Besides running cones in private a great deal of the time, he also works cut on his stand-up speed run technique.

Skitch Hitchcock-Age : 26, Team : Hobie, specialty : Freestyle.
If one were to list the top ten people most responsible for making skateboarding the phenomena sport it is today, Skitch's name wouId definitely appear. He has designed, built, and tested an incredible array of boards and accessories. Skitch initiated the use of ramps in freestyle routines and was the first to develop a speed board with fairing, 4“ wheels,brakes, parachute and the now standard non-steering truck theory.

Guy Grundy-Age : 25, Team : California Freeformer, specialty : Speed runs, Slalom.
Guy is a surprise. This quiet, peaceful PRO, who claims to like the "slow life“, is one of the fastest skateboarders on record. He took 1st place at the 1975 Signal Hill Speed Race when everyone else thought it was insane. He placed 2nd at Akron, Ohio in 1977 in the Unlimited Class. He also races cars. Guy was the Western Surfing Association U.S. Champion in 1968. His goal is to coach the U.S. OIympic Skateboard Team.

John Hutson-Age : 24, Team : Santa Cruz skateboards, specialty : Speed runs, Slalom.
John entered the Slalom racing scene in early 1977. By the end of fourteen races he has placed 1st in eleven,2nd in two of them, and 3rd in the other - he has never placed less than 3rd. He also holds several Stand-up wins. In addition to his Professional skateboarding career, John still finds time for surfing and body surfing. But most of all he's devoted to his wife and new daughter.

Ellen Berryman-Age : 18, Team : Alley Cat, specialty : Freestyle.
Ellen is possibly the most fluid skateboarder in the world. Her background in ballet is very evident as she executes her graceful and flowing maneuvers in the freestyle arena. After a 2nd place finish in the Belmont Park Freestyle, Ellen went on to place 1st at the Arizona State Championship Freestyle,the Ventura State Championships,the Long Beach Freeformer (76 and 77), and the Magic Mountain event. |
