Laynes Oaks-Age : 17, Team : Banzaï, specialty : Freestyle.
Besides placing 1st at such contests as the Pacific Beach Freestyle, Ventura County Championships, YMCA Summer Contests, La Costa and various skatepark contest, Layne has been featured in Skateboarder and has performed demonstrations from California to Texas. He also had a role in the movie « Go for it ».

Mike Goldman-Age : 25, Team : Santa Cruz Skateboards, specialty : Speed runs, Bowl Riding.
The sport first took notice of Mike Goldman when he won 1st place in the stand-up at the 1977 Signal Hill Race. He placed 4th in Stand-up and 4th in Slalom at the 1977 Akron, Ohio races. He has competed in local skateboard contests since 1976. His attention is also drawn to surfing and skiing. Mike says, « Have a good time ».

Greg Taie-Age : 17, Team : Gordon & Smith, specialty : Slalom.
A young aggressive Pro, Greg Taie has worked hard to take his place at La Costa Races. As he became faster, against the established Pros,he moved on to be invited to invitational Pro events. He took 3rd place in slalom at the Long Beach contest in 1977. He took 2nd place at the Another Roadside Attraction race at Dilion in 1977. At the AkronOhio Invitational he placed 7th in Slalom. Greg was the Professional advisor to a California based amateur association.

Rene Carrasco-Age : 26, Team : Pepsi Cola, specialty : Slalom, Freestyle Speed.
Rene is a multi-talented individual. Not only is he an outstanding skate boarder, having competed in such events as the Southern California Slalom Championships (3rd, Slalom & 3rdFree style), Anaheim (4th,Cross country), and Escape Country (1st, DownhiII Speed), he is proficient in surfing, and has placed 2nd in national karate competition. Rene majored in Art et college and is an award winning cartoonist.

Russ Howell-Age : 28, Team : Howell Skateboards, specialty : Freestyle.
There is just not enough space to extoll the virtues and accomplishments of the "Grand-daddy of skateboarding“.Russ has won more events than most skaters have entered. He has toured the world as a lecturer, exhibitor, demonstrator, and competitor. Russ holds the world record for consecutive 380's (36-1/2) and undoubtedly knows more about freestyle than anybody. All of this is only 17 years of skateboarding.

Russ Gosnell-Age : 21, Team : Gordon & Smith, Gullwing, specialty : Bank and Pool riding.
Russ has been a prominent vertical rider for some time. He co-developed the Rockit Skateboard. He won Kona Skateparks Pro Bowl Challenge in 1977. He developed a Safety Program at El Cajon (CA) Skatepark. A Pro skater for two years, Russ has been in the movies “Skateboard", “Super Session“ and "Go For it”. In the past he bas been involved heavily with moto-cross racing.

BASIC RULES FOR SAFE SKATEBOARDING
RULES OF THE ROAD-WHERE TO SKATEBOARD
1.Skateboard in only designated areas such as a skateboard park.
2.Sidewalk skating is prohibited in some city areas. Obey that rule. Where it is allowed, be alert and cautious about cars and pedestrians.
3.Never skateboard on a busy street or a street where it is difficult to be seen.
4.Obey traffic signals, signs and all traffic regulations.
5.Never allow yourself to be towed by bicycle, automobile, or any another moving vehicule. This type of activity usually ends in disaster.
6.Always be courteous to other skaters and to pedestrians. Don’t give skateboarding a bad name. Set a good example.

BASIC RULES FOR SAFE SKATEBOARDING
TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR EQUIPMENT
1. Check your bearings and wheels.
2.Look the board over, check for cracks or splits.
3.Use a non-skid material on the deck of your board.
DRESS COMFORTABLY IN PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1.Always skateboard in athletic shoes.
2.Wear a helmet, gloves, and knee and elbow pads.
3. Protect your weak spots. If it is your hips, wear hip padding. If it is your wrists, wear wrist guards. Protect any area of Iikely impact.
